An epizode of scientific researches of L. Euler during his stay in St.~Petersburg in 1730ties is presented. In those years, Euler worked on problems of shipbuilding by order of the Petersburg Academy of sciences. The two-volume treatise "Naval science" appeared as a result. Cooperation of M.V. Lomonosov and L. Euler in this problem is also reported, and for the first time an analysis of a part of Euler's correspondence with western scientists concerning the vessel stability theory is given.
Key words: "Naval science", vessel stability, shipbuilding.
